South Shropshire MP and former Defence Minister Philip Dunne has paid tribute to service personnel and veterans ahead of Armed Forces Day on 24th June.
Each year, Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday in June, and is a chance for the whole country to show their support for the men and women who make up our Service community.
Mr Dunne served as Defence Minister from 2012 until 2016, and visited bases across the UK as well as travelling to Afghanistan to meet troops on the frontline.
Mr Dunne said: “Armed Forces Day allows us to recognise the remarkable contribution members of the Armed Forces family make to our communities.
We have seen recently how our Armed Forces not only keep the country safe from threats overseas, but also play an important role supplementing the police in the event of terror attacks. Their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to ensure the safety of others is something for which we should all be grateful.
This Armed Forces Day, I would like to thank all those who make up our Armed Forces community both in South Shropshire and across the UK, including serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets, and their families.”
Events will be taking place in Shrewsbury and Telford to mark Armed Forces Day in Shropshire.
